Improve your LinkedIn Engagement

LinkedIn Engagement

Improving your LinkedIn engagement on your profile and posts is not rocket science.

It does, however, like any social media platform, require consistency and attention.

There is no silver bullet but as the adage goes ‘you get out what you put in,’ and this is very much the case with LinkedIn engagement.

The first thing to remember is that LinkedIn wants you to remain on their platform for as long as possible. They also want everybody in your network to do the same. This means the algorithms are designed to favour user activity.

In short, the more time you spend on the platform, the more your activity will be noticed and shown to others in your network and vice versa.

By now you’re probably thinking ‘but I don’t have time,’ so here are a few tips that won’t completely negate the time spent, but will at least help you on your way and, more importantly, give you a broad stroke overview of what to do to get your LinkedIn engagement popping.

1. Regular updates

Posting regularly is the first basic thing to adhere to. The more active you are the more LinkedIn will show your content. It’s a no-brainer.

However, be smart and schedule your content in time periods that get the best traction. You may ask when this is; you’d need to test various times to see what works best for your network and type of content being posted. It is important that you do pay attention to when is best to post.

2. Showcase your work

LinkedIn is a business network so it’s important to showcase content that is relevant to you and your business. Do not focus on what you think might be viral content. You want to publish content that will appeal to an important group of 500–1,000 people who can make a difference in your business.

Consistent quality of the content you post is what gets more views and more clicks. It’s important to share knowledge, expertise and experience; this is what LinkedIn users are looking for.

3. Publish longer posts

LinkedIn wants its users to say within the framework of their platform. So, try writing longer posts with no outbound links and no images.

The secret is to get the ‘See More’ link displaying at the bottom to encourage people to read the entire piece.

When this is clicked on, it registers as an extra click and the algorithms read this as the content being more engaging. End result: your content gets shown to more people in your network.

4. Post over 6 photos at once

This works the same way as the longer posts with the ‘see more’ link.

With each image viewed, this counts as a click and improves your overall engagement ranking and your content is likely to be pushed out to more people.

Some tips with photos:

  • Share industry photos from an event, team workshop, industry party etc and tag them where possible.
  • Pair each image with a short quote for maximum impact.

5. Publish PDFs

LinkedIn is one of the few social media platforms that allows PDFs to be posted via their desktop app.

Since a PDF can be multiple pages you can keep a user engaged for longer periods as they browse through the document.

PDFs are still one of the most powerful digital marketing tools used in business, so being able to publish a high-quality PDF online will not online improve engagement, it also serves as a fantastic sales tool for your company’s services.

6. Ask questions, start conversations

Surprisingly this is often the one many people struggle with.

It is often easier to simply write passionately about one’s business than it is to have open conversations surrounding this. Especially for business owners.

It needn’t be.

Ask opinions on questions that arise within your industry. Comment on others’ posts within your industry, either with questions or expertise.

Conversation starters are a goldmine for engagement and will not only improve your visibility on the platform, you may learn something too. 😉
