What NGOs and brands need to know about ‘Doing Good’ in a digital world

In 2018 there were some very interesting developments in the digital media space. Firstly, Facebook decided to change the way they do business and who they prioritise in our newsfeed. Secondly, if you are a brand, business or NGO, ‘going green’ or ‘doing good’ has shifted from a ‘nice to have’ to an essential component for success, thanks to millennials, which I break down in an article written for Financial Mail’s Redzone. Then, the 2018 Global NGO Technology Report also offered some interesting insights; most notably the use of messaging services like Facebook and WhatsApp to communicate to volunteers and donors, and right now they are millennials. In the article mentioned … [Read more...] about What NGOs and brands need to know about ‘Doing Good’ in a digital world

Artificial Intelligence – Saviour of the world or Doomsday device?

Unless you have been sleeping under a rock the last few years you will have seen quite a lot pop up on your newsfeed's about Artificial Intelligence or AI with some predicting the end of the human race and others sharing the view that it could be our saviour, albeit a hybrid version of ourselves. For those of you who don't know what AI is according to Wikipedia. Artificial intelligence (AI, also machine intelligence, MI) is apparently intelligent behaviour by machines, rather than the natural intelligence (NI) of humans and other animals. In computer science AI research is defined as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that … [Read more...] about Artificial Intelligence – Saviour of the world or Doomsday device?

Why should NGO’s be thinking about Inbound Marketing?

So by now we should have all heard about Inbound Marketing! If you haven't and you are a brand or an NGO you really should be getting on the buzzword band wagon now. In fact the wagon has left the station and left you behind. According to Wikipedia: Inbound marketing is a technique for drawing customers to products and services via content marketing, social media marketing and search engine optimization. For Inbound to work well it needs certain steps in place that once implemented properly can provide NGO's or brand with a huge advantage compared to traditional digital marketing in silos. The four main steps are as follows: Attract, Convert, Close and Delight which you can read … [Read more...] about Why should NGO’s be thinking about Inbound Marketing?

Are Shared Value Strategies the future of Social Impact?

A couple months ago we attended the Africa Shared Value Summit at the Sandton Convention Centre in Jo'Burg which was hosted by the Shift Social Development. We were pleasantly surprised to see the turn out and especially from big business in South Africa with the likes of Woolworths, Discovery Vitality, Nandos etc. We really found it really insightful and it was good to see what corporate SA are doing to offer shared value to the citizens of SA. We did leave there though asking ourselves this question. Why is the creation of "Shared Value" such a new concept? Surely its a no brainer? Maybe its because we have been in this sector of "doing good" for sometime now and trying to … [Read more...] about Are Shared Value Strategies the future of Social Impact?
